Description
The X5045 is a 4096-bit CMOS serial EEPROM organized as 512 x 8. It features 
an interface and software protocol designed to require only a 3-wire bus and 
a chip select (/CS), allowing any number of devices to share the same bus. 
The interface consists 
of serial data input, serial data output, and serial clock input pins. The 
device can be written, up to 4 bytes at a time, with random address read or 
write modes and allows sequential reads of unlimited length. There is an 
additional write protect 
input (/WP) that can be actively driven or tied to a fixed voltage. This pin 
disables all nonvolatile writes to the device when it is LOW. The X5045 also 
contains a nonvolatile Write Enable Latch bit (WEL) that must be set prior to 
each attempt to write 
to either array, providing extra data protection to both arrays.
The X5045 contains a nonvolatile status register (SR) that can be both 
written to and read from and which allows for control of several advanced 
features. The WEL bit, Write In Progress bit (WIP), 2 Watchdog Timer bits 
(WD0 and WD1), and 2 Block Lock? 
Protection bits (BL0 and BL1) are accessible in the SR, allowing for varying 
levels of data protection and control. Using Block Lock?, the system can be 
partitioned to only allow nonvolatile writes to 0%, 25%, 50%, or 100% of the 
total EEPROM array. 
Polling of the WIP bit will indicate the early completion of a nonvolatile 
write cycle.
The X5045 also has a concurrent programmable watchdog timer and voltage 
supervisor function. If /CS isn't toggling from LOW to HIGH or HIGH to LOW 
within the watchdog timer interval, RESET will be asserted. Additionally, the 
Vcc sense circuitry will 
also assert RESET if Vcc falls below the programmed trip point. This 
effectively provides the functionality of 3 chips (serial EEPROM, watchdog 
timer, and voltage supervisor) in a single X5045.
This device is available in 8-pin DIP, 8-lead SOIC, or 14-lead TSSOP packages 
with Vcc ranges from 2.7V to 5.5V. It is also available in commercial,
