The LeCroy QPHY-DDR2 Test Solution is the best way to characterize DDR2 memory interfaces. Capable of performing measurements on 400 MHz, 533 MHz, 667 MHz, 800 MHz, 1066 MHz and custom speed grades, QPHY-DDR2 has a full suite of Clock, Electrical and Timing tests as specified by the JEDEC Specification and Intel JEDEC Specifications Addendums.

The LeCroy QualiPHY platform provides an easy to configure user interface, allows for custom test and limit selection, displays connection diagrams to the user to ensure proper connectivity, and generates reports with all of the results including screenshots of the worst case failures for each applicable test. In addition, all of the waveforms tested by QPHY-DDR2 can be saved to easily share information or rerun the tests at a later time.

QPHY-DDR2 enables the user to obtain the highest level of confidence in their DDR2 interface. Due to the high level of variability in DDR2 measurements it is important to measure a large number of cycles. By measuring a large number of cycles in a very short period of time the user can be more confident that they are catching the true maximum and minimum points for their measurement.

In addition to automated characterization of DDR2 signals, QPHY-DDR2 also enables powerful debug capability for DDR2 signals inside the oscilloscope. Root causes of failure can be quickly and easily found using all of the advanced serial data tools within the oscilloscope. These include: SDA II, Eye Doctor? II, WaveScan?, and many more.

Clock Tests?– These tests perform all of the clock test as described by the appropriate JEDEC specification. These include average clock period, absolute clock period, average high/low pulse width, absolute high/low pulse width, half period jitter, clock period jitter, cycle-to-cycle period jitter and cumulative error over n period tests.

Electrical Tests?– These tests measure the electrical characteristics of the DDR2 signals. Shown above, the SoutR test measures the slew rates of the data, strobe and clock signals. Over 1000 slew rate measurements were performed and the worst instance was displayed on the screen. The signals are annotated with the signal names to make the screen easy to interpret. Additionally, cursors are used to show the user the voltage levels between which the slew rate was measured.

Timing Test?– These tests verify the timing relationship between particular DDR2 events. Shown above, the tDQSCK test verifies that the strobe output access time from the clock signal is within the limit specified by the appropriate JEDEC specification. In this test, 5000 tDQSCK measurements were performed on all of the DDR2 read bursts and the worst instance was displayed on the screen.

Eye Diagrams?– Eye Diagrams are a powerful tool for debugging serial data signals. QPHY-DDR2 enables the user to create eye diagrams of both the Read and the Write data bursts to ensure that the signal integrity is sufficient such that the data will be sampled properly by the receiver.

QualiPHY has many preset compliance configurations but also enables users to create their own configuration and limit sets.

Connection Diagrams prompt the user to make the necessary connections..

  • Connection diagrams display proper setup using the PCI-SIG Compliance Base Boards and Compliance Load Boards.
  • Report generation incorporates CEM test assertions for 2.5Gb/s, 5.0Gb/s with 3.5dB of de-emphasis and 5.0Gb/s with 6.0 dB of de-emphasis
  • Simple and easy-to-use automated testing

The LeCroy QPHY-PCIe Test Solution provides automated control for LeCroy oscilloscopes for performing the entire transmitter physical layer tests as described by the Card Electro-mechanical specification Rev 1.1 and 2.0

Testing requirements for both system boards and add-in cards are described by the specification. QPHY-PCIe has the ability to test compliance in accordance with the specification for both system boards and add-in cards.

By integrating the SigTest libraries into the oscilloscope software, QPHY-PCIe can fully automate all of the required compliance tests using the exact same algorithms that are described by the specification.

Additionally, QPHY-PCIe can run all of the 2.5GT/s tests, then all of the 5.0GT/s with 3.5dB of de-emphasis test, and finally all of the 5.0Gt/s with 6.0dB of de-emphasis tests. This allows the user to create one test report for all 3 testing phases.

These capabilities make QPHY-PCIe an all-inclusive automated test suite that meets the requirements for 2.5GT/s and 5.0GT/s PCI Express transmitter compliance testing.

Integrated SigTest Libraries

By integrating the SigTest libraries into the oscilloscope software, the exact algorithms provided by the PCI-SIG are used for calculating the results. This ensure the same exact answer as running the stand alone SigTest utility with the added benefit of being able to run this utility from within the oscilloscope software.

Comprehensive and Easy-to-read Test Reports

Measurement results often need to be summarized and tabulated to quickly verify specifications. This information, together with instrument and signal acquisition/test condition setups, results in a fully documented record. QPHY-PCIe streamlines this process by incorporating an automatic HTML report generation engine. The created test reports contain tabulated numerical values for each individual test result, including PASS/FAIL and specification limit columns. Reports can also be saved as PDF, HTML or XML.

Advanced Debug Capability

If a compliance failure is found, LeCroy's SDA II serial data analysis package is available to help find the root cause quickly and easily. SDA II has the ability to perform Eye and Jitter measurements simultaneously and is fully integrated into the oscilloscope application software. In addition, with specialized features such as IsoBER, ISI Plot, Pj Inverse FFT and multiple jitter models, SDA II provides insight into the measured Eye and Jitter parameters making it easier to identify the sources of problems.

The Eye Doctor II analysis software allows the user to view their signal after Continuous Time Linear Equalization (CTLE), Feed Forward Equalization (FFE) and/or Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE). This gives the user to ability to see how an actual receiver that utilizes equalization would interpret their signal.

LeCroy's SDA II analysis software contains integrated jitter and timing analysis for clock and data signals. It allows analysis of data up to the memory limit of the oscilloscope and using X-Stream II technology, SDA II can display eye diagrams and jitter decomposition results up to 50 times faster than other solutions. Additionally, the specific PLL for PCI Express is selectable from a list of pre-configured PLLs. Lastly, SDA II contains 2 separate methods for jitter decomposition; the industry standard spectral method, and the NQ-scale methods. NQ-scale is critical for properly distinguishing between random and deterministic jitter in systems where cross-talk is present.

Additionally, the Eye Doctor II analysis software also enables channel emulation. For PCIe testing, a design engineer will perform their serial data measurement at the output of the transmitter. However, analysis at the far side of a reference serial data channel is very useful for debugging problems.. To accomplish this they could either use a physical channel to make their measurement after the channel or they can use channel emulation to see what their serial data signal would look like if it had been transmitted through the channel.

QPHY-UWB – Powerful Tool

The QPHY-UWB software package for the Serial Data Analyzer family provides a concise set of validation/verification and debug tools written in accordance with the WiMedia PHY Compliance and Interoperability Test Specification.

The LeCroy SDA 13000 or SDA 11000 Serial Data Analyzers provide the ideal combination of high bandwidth, high sample rate, and deep capture memory to enable the user to capture the entire UWB spectrum. Covered transmission test features include Power Spectral Density (PSD) mask testing of the bands in use in any band group (1-6), constellation display, and Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) measurement of UWB radio signals.

LeCroy's QPHY-UWB package includes capabilities beyond the requirements of the WiMedia PHY Compliance and Inter operability Test Specification which are useful for troubleshooting problems in MB-OFDM UWB signals.

Simple and Complete

The QPHY-UWB package enables transmitter measurements on direct RF signal output and is the only commercially available software package that combines EVM Measurement, PSD, and Constellations diagrams into a single application which is totally integrated into the oscilloscope. Other UWB analysis packages run as applications in external math processing software, which compromises the speed and the ability to operate the option software in the same manner as the oscilloscope.

The 6 main Analysis buttons on the main menu allow the user to access the 6 analysis views:

  • PSD (Mask and ACPR)
  • EVM/Constellation
  • Mag/Phase
  • Spectrogram
  • CPE vs. Time
  • Power
Spectrogram View

The QPHY-UWB spectrogram display provides a truly intuitive view of how the UWB signal frequency content evolves over time. The spectrogram is a 3-D plot where the power is shown color-graded as a function of frequency on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis. The time axis of the spectrogram is locked to the time axis of the input signal, so as you zoom in and out on the input, the spectrogram time axis will follow automatically. The center frequency and span are automatically set to optimally show the band group in use, and in addition can be independently controlled.

Spectrogram View – TFC1 signal hopping over 3 three bands.

EVM/Constellation View

This view provides a display of the constellation as well as the majority of the parameters needed to estimate the signal quality. This analysis can be done over all data and pilot tones, only data or pilot tones, or on a selected single symbol or selected single tone. This ability allows the user to narrow in on possible explanations for poor EVM. The measurement parameters displayed in this view are:

  • EVM – Error Vector Magnitude
  • FrqErr – Frequency Error
  • Scorr – Sync Cross correlation
  • pCE – CE power relative to sync
  • pHDR – Header power relative to sync
  • pPSDU – Payload power relative to sync

To the left of the constellation plot is a time-based display of the complex FFT I and Q samples from each symbol plotted in subcarrier order with successive symbols in time order. The I and Q subcarrier samples within a symbol are spread over a time equal to the symbol duration. In the data shown here, it is readily seen that something disturbed the carrier phase at the beginning of the packet degrading the constellation quality and EVM.

EVM/Constellation view – 53 Mbps rate – QPSK.

Magnitude and Phase View

The magnitude and phase view of the spectrum of a user specified symbol allows checking for variations of phase or magnitude of any tone from symbol to symbol. In this display the CE symbols are not equalized, providing a view of what the signal really looks like before equalization. Header and payload symbols are equalized. In the display shown, the magnitude is plotted on the upper grid at 3 dB/division, and the phase is plotted on the lower grid at 45 degrees/division. The magnitude and phase points from each tone are plotted from -61 on the left to +61 on the right. Cursors can be turned on to read out values on any individual tone.

Magnitude and Phase View – Symbol 25, a CE symbol.

Common Phase Error View

The WiMedia test specification requires that the common phase error (CPE) correction applied to each symbol is a low pass filtered value with a time constant on the order of 12 symbols duration. This results in a residual CPE, in most cases due to phase noise above the passband of this filter, which can deteriorate EVM. QPHY-UWB provides plots of the common phase error versus time for understanding the magnitude of any phase noise problem and its dependence on time. In the display shown, the CPE is being displayed at 2 degrees per vertical division. The horizontal time scale of the CPE plot is locked to the scale of the input waveform trace.

Test with QualiPHY

QPHY-UWB works with the LeCroy QualiPHY compliance test automation tool. QualiPHY automates setup of the scope when running a sequence of tests, stores the data in a database, and prints a test report with all the measurement results, including displays. A QualiPHY test sequence for implementing the full WiMedia Compliance test suite is included with QPHY-UWB. Variations or subsets of this test sequence can easily be created by copying the pro vided sequence and changing its configuration. To the left are shown the main control panel for QualiPHY and an example of the 1st page of a test report. QualiPHY is available for download on the LeCroy website.

Key Features
  • Fastest way to gain confidence in your DDR3 interface by measuring a large number of cycles and reporting statisticaly relevant results
  • Fully annotated worst case measurement screenshot captured and displayed in report including trace labels and pertinent voltage levels
  • Ability to use the CS line to separate read signals from write signals in multi-ranked systems
  • Stop on test/failure capabilityallows the user to pause at a particular test and review the measurement on the oscilloscope display
  • Support for testing 800 MHz, 1066 MHz, 1333 MHz, 1600 MHz and custom speed grades of DDR3 signals
  • Test coverage for tests as described by the JESD79-3D JEDEC specification
More Measurement Cycles Provides Highest Confidence in Less Time

Due to the high level of variability in DDR3 measurements, it is important to measure a large number of cycles. By measuring a large number of cycles in a very short period of time, the user can be more confident that they are catching the true maximum and minimum points for their measurement. In many cases, QPHY-DDR3 will perform several thousand measurements in the same time competitive equipment will perform less than 100. This allows you to achieve statistical relevance in a single run of QPHY-DDR3 without requiring multiple acquisitions over a long period of time.

Advanced Debug Capability

Using the “Stop on Test” capability built in to QPHY-DDR3, the user can pause the testing at the completion of each individual test. QPHY-DDR3 will prompt the oscilloscope to save the panel file to preserve the current state of the oscilloscope. The user is then free to perform additional debugging of any particular test to aid root cause analysis. Root causes of failure can be quickly and easily found using all of the advanced serial data tools within the oscilloscope. These include: SDA II, Eye Doctor™ II, WaveScan™, Histograms, Tracks and many more - making it easy to correlate anomalies with other observed behaviors. Once the user has completed debugging that particular test, they simply click on the “Ok” button in QPHY-DDR3 to resume running the remainder of the selected tests.

Clock Tests

These tests perform all of the clock tests as described by the appropriate JEDEC specification. These include average clock period, absolute clock period, average high/low pulse width, absolute high/low pulse width, half period jitter, clock period jitter, cycle-to-cycle period jitter and cumulative error over n period tests.

Electrical Tests

Shown above, the SRQ test measuresthe slew rates of the data, strobe and clock signals. A 2 Mpt acquisition was taken and all of the read bursts were identified. Then every rising edge slew rate was measured. In this case over 9000 slew rate measurements were performed. Shown above, the worst instance of this measurement is displayed on the screen. Additionally, the “Stop on Test” ability can be used to perform further analysis on this test to determine the root cause of a failure.

Timing Tests

Shown above, the tDQSCK test verifies that the strobe output access time from the clock signal. Similar to the electrical tests, a 2 Mpt acquisition was taken and all of the read bursts were identified. Then the time between every strobe edge and its associated clock were measured. In this case over 10000 tDQSCK measurements were performed. Shown above, the worst instance of this measurement is displayed on the screen. An additional probe can be utilized to capture a separate signal on the board to aid in failure analysis.

Eye Diagrams

Eye Diagrams are a powerful tool for debugging serial data signals. QPHY-DDR3 enables the user to create eye diagrams of both the Read and the Write data bursts to ensure that the signal integrity is sufficient such that the data will be sampled properly by the receiver. Additionally, the Eye Diagram for the Data Signal and the Strobe signal are shown at the same time to ensure proper strobe timing.

QualiPHY

QualiPHY is designed to reduce the time, effort and specialized knowledge needed to perform compliance testing on high-speed serial buses.

  • Guides the user through each test setup
  • Performs each measurement in accordance with the relevant test procedure
  • Compares each measured value with the applicable specification limits
  • Fully documents all results
  • QualiPHY helps the user perform testing the right way every time!

SuperSpeed USB is one of most highly anticipated standards in several years. At 10x the data rate of USB 2.0 and with new requirements like CTLE (continuous time linear equalization) and reference channels, SuperSpeed USB will pose new challenges to implementers.

QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx is an automated test package for SuperSpeed USB compliance testing. It provides connection diagrams to ensure the proper setup for the required measurements, automates the oscilloscope for performing these measurements, and provides a comprehensive report of results including screenshots.

The LeCroy SDA 8 Zi Series of oscillo scopes with the Eye Doctor? II analysis package are the perfect instruments for performing SuperSpeed USB compliance measure ments and more importantly for debugging compliance failures allowing the engineers to quickly find the root cause of serial data problems.

SDA II allows the user to quickly create eye diagrams utilizing the full record length of the oscilloscope and perform jitter analysis accurately, even when there is very long nonrepeating pattern jitter decomposition. This is critically important for properly distinguishing between random and deterministic jitter in systems containing a channel that severely stresses the signal.

Additionally, Eye Doctor II provides the channel emulation and de-embedding tools that engineers need for next generation serial data standards.

QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx uses all of these oscilloscope features to perform the compliance tests as described by the USB 3.0 Electrical Test Specification.

The LeCroy QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx automated test solution is the only solution that fully integrates transmitter and receiver testing into one test suite.

Using the LeCroy Protocol-enabled Receiver and Transmitter Tolerance Tester (PeRT3), QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx has the ability to perform all of the SuperSpeed USB receiver tests as described by the SuperSpeed USB specification. Also, the PeRT3 can connect to the device under test, set the device to output the proper test pattern or enter loopback mode and output the proper test pattern. Then QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx uses the SDA 813Zi oscilloscope to perform all of the SuperSpeed USB transmitter measurements as described by the SuperSpeed USB specification. All of this can be done simply with the push of a button.

Using the TF-USB3 and the RF Switch, the transmitter output of the product under test can be switched between either the PeRT3 input or the oscilloscope input. Additionally, the transmitter output of the PeRT3 can be switched between either product under test or the oscilloscope. Finally, the compliance test channel, which is required for receiver testing, can be put in the path from the PeRT3 to the product under test. This enables all of the transmitter tests and the receiver tests to be performed with one setup. No connection changes are required.

Additionally, since all of these tests are run from QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx, the results of the transmitter test as well as the receiver results can be created in one comprehensive report.

Finally, everything required for SuperSpeed testing can be ordered with LeCroy’s SuperSpeed USB Bundles. For additional information on LeCroy’s SuperSpeed USB Bundle Options please visit ww.lecroy.com.

The Eye Doctor II analysis software allows the user to view their signal after Continuous Time Linear Equalization (CTLE). QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx uses this functionality to create the eye diagram and measure the jitter after CTLE as required by the SuperSpeed USB Compliance Specification.

LeCroy’s SDA II analysis software contains integrated jitter and timing analysis for clock and data signals. It allows analysis of data up to the memory limit of the oscilloscope and using X-Stream II technology, SDA II can display eye diagrams and jitter decomposition results up to 50 times faster than other solutions. Additionally, the specific PLL for SuperSpeed USB is selectable from a list of pre-configured PLLs. Lastly, SDA II can accurately measure jitter when there is a very long repeating pattern as is used in the USB3 by taking advantage of its very long memory or using a method that does not require the pattern to repeat allowing for measurements or small acquisitions.

Additionally, the Eye Doctor II analysis software also enables channel emulation. For USB 3.0 testing, a design engineer will perform their serial data measurement at the output of the transmitter. However, the specification requires that the measurements be made at the far side of a reference serial data channel. To accomplish this they could either use a physical channel to make their measurement after the channel or they can use channel emulation to see what their serial data signal would look like if it had been transmitted through the channel.

QPHY-USB3-Tx-Rx utilizes this functionality to automatically emulate the reference compliance channel prior to eye diagram and jitter testing.

The LeCroy QPHY-MIPI-DPHY

Test Solution provides automated control for LeCroy oscilloscopes for performing transmitter physical layer tests as described by the MIPI Alliance Specification for D-PHY version 1.00.00

QPHY-MIPI-DPHY enables the user to obtain the highest level of confidence in their D-PHY interface. Due to the high level of variability in D-PHY measurements it is important to measure a large number of cycles. By measuring a large number of cycles in a very short period of time the user can be more confident that they are catching the true maximum and minimum points for their measurement.

The LeCroy QualiPHY platform provides an easy to configure user interface, allows for custom test and limit selection, displays connection diagrams to the user to ensure proper connectivity, and generates a comprehensive test report. In addition, all of the waveforms tested by QPHY-MIPI-DPHY can be saved to easily share information or rerun the tests at a later time.

Additionally, QPHY-MIPI-DPHY will display and record the worst case instance of the test that is being performed. This worst case instance will be zoomed and captured in the compliance report.

In addition to automated characterization of MIPI D-PHY signals, QPHY-MIPI-DPHY also enables powerful debug capability for MIPI D-PHY signals inside the oscilloscope. The integrated MIPI D-PHY Debug utility and decoders are the perfect combination for identifying the root cause of compliance failures.

Although there is currently no official compliance program for MIPI D-PHY signals, it is highly recommended that devices are tested against the limits specified in the MIPI Alliance Specification for D-PHY.

For debug purposes QPHY-MIPI-DPHY will create the single-ended and differential eye diagrams for the clock and data high-speed signals. Although there is no formal eye diagram test required by the specification, these eye diagrams make it possible to gain quick insight into signal quality of the clock and data lines.

The LP tests verify that the low-power signals' electrical and timing characteristics fall within the required compliance limits. These tests are performed on an Escape Mode sequence. Typically an Ultra Low Power State (ULPS) entry command is used but other sequences can be used also.

The HS tests verify that the high-speed signals' electrical and timing characteristics fall within the required compliance limits. These tests are performed on any data capture that contains multiple high-speed bursts. These include tests performed on the data signals, the clock signals and also tests performed that validate timing parameters between the clock and data lines.

Tools For Debugging MIPI D-PHY
  • Decodes MIPI D-PHY, CSI-2, and DSI signals
  • Correlate analog waveforms with protocol decode on one screen
  • Decode up to 4 differential data lanes using the CDR feature
  • View decoded data in hexadecimal format
  • Decode information expands as the time base is adjusted or zoomed
  • Convenient table display with quick "Zoom to byte" capability
  • Quick search capability for specific message packets
  • Supports decode for LP & HS, HS only and LP only
  • Supports single-ended and differential probing for Data and Clock

The MIPI D-PHY decode is the ideal tool for powerful system level protocol debug as well as problem solving for signal quality issues. The D-PHY decode solution adds a unique set of tools to your oscilloscope, simplifying how you design and debug MIPI D-PHY, CSI-2 and DSI signals.

The Most Intuitive Decode

MIPI D-PHY decode uses color-coded overlays on various sections of the protocol for an easy-to-understand visual display. Depending on the time base or the amount of zoom, the decode information is condensed or expanded to better assist in understanding events during short or long acquisitions.

The Single Tool Enhances Productivity

The D-PHY D solution concentrates all your information in one place. Viewing the application layer of D-PHY signals on top of the physical layer provides a unique view that bus analyzers cannot. A full suite of amplitude and timing measurements can be applied to debug physical layer issues that may not be apparent in a protocol view.
